 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 30YR OLD MAN ARRESTED FOR DEFILING HIS 12YR OLD DAUGHTER

A 30yrs old man Solomon Ogundetu has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for defiling his 12yrs old daughter (name withheld).
The arrest of the suspect followed a report by one Alhaji Obamuyiwa Semiu who reported at Imeko Divisional headquarters that the victim a primary school pupil confided in one of her teachers that her father has been having carnal knowledge of her since last year with threat to kill her if she dare tell anybody. But when she can no longer bear it, she has to inform her teacher who in-turn informed the Alhaji.
Upon the report, the DPO Imeko Division CSP Monday Unuigbe detailed his detectives to the suspect’s house where he was promptly arrested. On interrogation, the suspect who is a driver confessed to the commission of the crime. Investigation revealed that he has separated from the mother of the girl for years now and the girl is the only product of the union. The victim has been taken to general hospital for medical care and report.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama has ordered the transfer of the suspect to Anti-human trafficking and child labor unit of State criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
