Putin woos African leaders at showcase summit, says Russia is better partner than 'colonial' West President Vladimir Putin told African leaders on Wednesday that Russia was their best partner, accusing what he cast as a colonial West of still trying ‌to exploit the continent's resources and using debt to hold back development, Reuters reported. The Kremlin chief was speaking at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, a two-day event attended by African leaders and government delegations from 48 countries, during which he will hold one-on-one talks with many of the 22 individual African leaders attending on everything from trade to security, arms deals and grain supplies. "Africa is increasingly asserting itself as one of the key players in the global economy and politics. However, the emergence of a multipolar world is, of course, no easy task; it faces resistance from countries that are not prepared to accept this reality: those who are accustomed to thinking i...

Lagos State Government has alerted residents on the rise of sea water level resulting in the inability of the lagoon to discharge water into the ocean, thereby causing backflow into the drainage channels.
According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello, officials of the state are already working on different measures that would allow easy flow of water in the affected areas.
He added that the state Government is also in talks with the officials of the Ogun Osun River Basin Authority which is releasing water to do so gradually.
He explained that the rise in sea level has contributed to current flooding in many parts of Ikoyi, V.I, Dolphin and Oworoshoki because the lagoon can no longer discharge, which he said, is causing back flow into drainage outlets.
Similarly, the Commissioner said the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority can no longer hold the Oyan dam hence has been releasing its water causing rise in Ogun River and this has affected low line areas like Isheri North and Magodo and up to Owode Onirin.
Bello said until the ocean level goes down, the lagoon cannot discharge water into the ocean which will in effect cause back flow into all the drainage outlets in the state.
