 Al Qaeda affiliate says it killed 70 soldiers in Benin: Reports Al Qaeda affiliate JNIM has said it killed 70 soldiers in raids on two military posts in Benin, according to SITE Intelligence Group, Reuters reported. The West African state and its coastal neighbour Togo have suffered a series of attacks in recent years as groups linked to Islamic State and al Qaeda have expanded their presence beyond the Sahel region to the north.

     Her Majesty The Queen has opened a new session of Parliament this morning.
This is the 65th occasion on which Her Majesty has opened Parliament - every year of her reign except 1959 and 1963 (whilst pregnant).
In šŸ“· 2, The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, is pictured in 1958, the first time in history the State Opening was televised.
The State Opening unites the three elements of legislature ā€“ the House of Lords, the House of Commons and The Queen ā€“ together as the Crown in Parliament.
Today The Queen travelled to The Palace of Westminster in the Horse-drawn Diamond Jubilee State Coach and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment provided a Sovereignā€™s Escort.
Her Majesty is dressed in ā€œRoyal Robesā€ and is seated at the Throne, accompanied by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.
The Queen officially opened Parliament by addressing the House of Commons and House of Lords, in The Queen's Speech. It is not drafted by The Queen, but by the Government, outlining policies and proposed future legislation.More photos below.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. ā€œThe Appellant was set up. The Appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya,ā€ he said.
