 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.       Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has challenged the staff of Alimosho General Hospital, Igando to justify the attention being paid to the hospital in recent time by government and upscale their service delivery to meet the yearnings of the populace.
Sanwo-Olu gave the charge at the annual Christmas day celebration with the patients of the hospital where he presented gift items to the hospital patients in the spirit of the yuletide season.
The Governor who was represented at the event by the Director of Occupational Services, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Enitan Layeni-Adeyemo said that the patients also deserves to be celebrated in spite of their varying health status.
Sanwo-Olu made reference to the newly located Dr. Aishat Buhari Mother and Child Centre within the premises of the hospital as well as the additional staff strength added to the medical personnel of the facility, saying that government on its part is making frantic efforts to accord the hospital the needed leverage for its optimal performance.
"You will recall that just two months ago, we commissioned this beautify edifice of 140 Bed Hospital, a collaborative efforts of the State and federal Government and a first of its kind across the State to address the issue of maternal morbidity rates, you must however justify this huge investment sited within your hospital, " the Governor stated.
While saying that to whom much is given, much is also expected, Governor Sanwo-Olu called on the medical personnel of the hospital and other members of staff to be more focused, determined in rendering qualitative services to the citizenry than before next year.
He used the occasion to appeal to Lagosians not to limit the exchange of gift items and show of affection to people within their comfort zones alone during the yuletide season but also extend the gesture to people facing one health challenge or the other as well as other vulnerable members of the society.
The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Madewa Adebajo commended the staff for efforts being put in place to stay afloat in their various duty posts in spite of some noticeable challenges capable of limiting their commitment.
He mentioned that the state government was aware of the challenges facing the hospital and has been addressing the challenges one after the other.
The Medical Director confirmed that the hospital has been receiving the deployment of additional medical personnel of different specialties in the past few weeks, adding that the gesture shows that the hospital which is perhaps the biggest Secondary medical facility owned by government in the State is receiving the support of the State Government.
Speaking on the Christmas celebration, Dr. Adebajo said that celebrating with the hospital patients was one of the ways the State government shows the significance it attaches to the health sector and health of the citizens in addition to having health as one of the pillars of focus by the present administration in the State.More photos below.
