OBI ATTRIBUTES STAMPEDE TRAGEDIES IN OYO, FCT, AND ANAMBRA TO HUNGER AND SYSTEMIC ISSUES. (PHOTO).

 Peter Obi has blamed hunger and systemic failures for the recent spate of stampedes across the country.  Scores of persons were dead, and many others wounded in the tragic incidents in Ibadan, Oyo State; Okija in Anambra and another one in the nation’s capital of Abuja. The stampedes happened in a space of five days with the last two occurring on Saturday morning during food distribution campaigns. Obi, who was the Labour Party (LP)’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, said the incidents underline the rising hunger in the country which has led to desperation. “I am deeply saddened and distressed by the tragic loss of lives in desperate searches for food,” Obi, who is a former governor of Anambra State, wrote in a post on his X account Saturday afternoon. “While I will not cast blame but instead appreciate the organizers of these respective events for their kind gestures in providing palliatives and support to society, especially the poor, these tragedies reflect the...

GOVERNOR SAMUEL ORTOM'S NEW YEAR 2020 MESSAGE.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     Governor Samuel Ortom, on behalf of his family and the State Government sends felicitations to Benue people and other Nigerians as the country enters year 2020.
The Governor gives praises and glory to God for His grace, guidance and protection all through year 2019, to enable the present administration confront the challenges of development.
He is optimistic that 2020 will be a better year with greater opportunities for the people.
"Just yesterday, I signed the 2020 Appropriation Bill christened ‘Budget of Advancement, Growth and Development’, which focuses on raising the standard of living at the grassroots through economic growth and human capital development."
Governor Ortom reaffirms the commitment of his administration to continue to aggressively provide infrastructure in education and health institutions as well as other sectors of the economy while supporting security agencies to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
"Let me reassure our people that we will not relent in our resolve to make Benue a safer place and create a better environment for businesses to thrive so as to encourage more investors to come to the state."
The Governor reminds indigenous entrepreneurs in particular of the existing opportunities such as the partnership the state has with Bank of Industry, BOI, to give loans at only 5% interest rate. He encourages the people to massively go into farming as his administration is set to support families to invest in animal husbandry, particularly pig farming.
Governor Ortom assures Benue workers that their wages will continue to be a priority as his administration sources funds to clear outstanding salaries. The Governor says he has already set up a committee to discuss with labour unions on the issue of N30,000 minimum wage.
He calls on Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the cause of promoting peaceful coexistence and pray for the leadership of the country under President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Governor wishes Benue people a prosperous New Year.
