Reps Direct Rivers Sole Administrator to Report to National Assembly The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has instructed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to report directly to the National Assembly in managing the state’s affairs, in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The directive was issued on Tuesday during the inauguration of a 21-member House Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State in Abuja. The committee’s formation follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, prompted by a political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly. Tinubu suspended both the governor and the assembly, appointing Ibas as Sole Administrator—a decision ratified by both chambers of the National Assembly. Speaker Abbas emphasized that Ibas’s role is temporary, focused on maintaining law and order until democratic governance is restored...
