 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.     The Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, Professor Raphael Afonja was at Akesan market, Oyo town for on-the-spot assessment of a fire outbreak at the market earlier today.
The Honourable Commissioner who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola also paid a visit to victims of the fire outbreak at an undisclosed hospital where they are receiving proper medical care.
He expressed the goodwill of Gov. Seyi Makinde led administration and gave the assurance that efforts are in top gear to prevent such future occurrences.More photos below.
