 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Recall that few months ago,following it's upgrade, the Nigeria Police Medical Facilities in Anambra, Police Hospital Awka in particular successfully performed it's first major surgical operations where it extracted 26 fibroids from a female patient. Since then the hospital continue to expand its horizons by unveiling Eye clinic and Dental department which provides twenty four hours services for both in and out patients.
Consequently, the hospital has now become a reference centre for victims of accident and Emergencies as well as hospital of choice for other Sister agencies in the State.
This was disclosed by the Command medical officer CSP Dr Emelike Chinenyenwa MBBS , Community health Physician and forensic expert Nigeria Police during a maiden meeting of law Enforcement Medical officials in Anambra State in order to foster cooperation, synergy and enhance level of preparedness for Emergency situations and disaster management such as fire outbreaks and epidemics.
Participants at the meeting includes medical officials of the Nigeria Correctional Services,Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NDLEA,
Fire Services,DSS,Anambra Vigilante Service and State Emergency management Agency (SEMA) Anambra State.
The forum was initiated and hosted by the Anambra State Police Command under the watch of the Commissioner of Police CP John B.Abang,fdc.
