 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. PDP Mourns Ex-AGF Richard Akinjide...Urged FG To Immortalize Him
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deeply mourns the death of elder statesman, foremost legal icon, former Minister of Education, former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Chief Richard Akinjide SAN.
The party laments the death of Chief Akinjide as a monumental national loss especially coming at this period when his wealth of experience and patriotism is needed the most by our nation.
The PDP describes Chief Akinjide as an exceptional nationalist, a quintessential democrat and astute administrator who dedicated his energy and resources towards the unity, political stability and development of our dear nation.
Chief Akinjide’s performance as minister of education in the First Republic as well as the Attorney General of the Federation in the Second Republic laid the solid platform for the development of education and administration of justice system in Nigeria
The party recalled Akinjide’s role as a member of the Constitutional Drafting committee of 1975-1977, which helped in providing the solid foundation for the development of constitutional democracy in Nigeria.
Indeed, Chief Akinjide’s contributions towards the development of democratic tenets in our nation are solidly etched in the annals of our history even as he eternally serves as a fountain of inspiration to younger generation of leaders.
Our party calls on the Federal Government to immortalize Chief Akinjide for his dedication, commitment and patriotism towards our dear fatherland.
The PDP commiserates with the Akinjide family, Governor Seyi Makinde as well as the government and people of Oyo state and prays God to grant the nation the fortitude to bear this great loss.
