  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. PDP Mourns Ex-AGF Richard Akinjide...Urged FG To Immortalize Him
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deeply mourns the death of elder statesman, foremost legal icon, former Minister of Education, former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Chief Richard Akinjide SAN.
The party laments the death of Chief Akinjide as a monumental national loss especially coming at this period when his wealth of experience and patriotism is needed the most by our nation.
The PDP describes Chief Akinjide as an exceptional nationalist, a quintessential democrat and astute administrator who dedicated his energy and resources towards the unity, political stability and development of our dear nation.
Chief Akinjide’s performance as minister of education in the First Republic as well as the Attorney General of the Federation in the Second Republic laid the solid platform for the development of education and administration of justice system in Nigeria
The party recalled Akinjide’s role as a member of the Constitutional Drafting committee of 1975-1977, which helped in providing the solid foundation for the development of constitutional democracy in Nigeria.
Indeed, Chief Akinjide’s contributions towards the development of democratic tenets in our nation are solidly etched in the annals of our history even as he eternally serves as a fountain of inspiration to younger generation of leaders.
Our party calls on the Federal Government to immortalize Chief Akinjide for his dedication, commitment and patriotism towards our dear fatherland.
The PDP commiserates with the Akinjide family, Governor Seyi Makinde as well as the government and people of Oyo state and prays God to grant the nation the fortitude to bear this great loss.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
