 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. CP ABANG ORDERS FOR A FULL SCALE INVESTIGATION INTO THE ALLEGED FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT WHICH CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A 22 YEARS OLD MAN IN NIMO.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      On 20/05/2020 at 8:30pm,there was a report of fatal motor vehicle accident along Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State involving a shuttle bus with Registration No ACA 325 ZW driven by one Micheal Obi Chukwuebuka 'm’ of Obeagu Osili 'm' of Enug-ukwu .
The accident occured when one Anthony Okafor 'm' aged 22 years while trying to cross the highway was suddenly hit by the aforementioned vehicle during the rush hour of the enforcement of curfew.
Victim was rushed to Beke Memoirial Hospital Nimo by a Police Patrol team where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty and corpse deposited at same Hospital morgue for postmotem examination.The driver was arrested and investigation is ongoing.
However,following the incident, aggrieved youth in the area went on rampage today 21/5/2020 and attempted to set ablaze Nimo Divisional Police headquarters but were persuaded to disperse through the joint efforts of the Police and community stakeholders.
Meanwhile,, the Commissioner of Police CP John B.Abang, fdc who is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident has ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter.
The CP further assures the public that justice would be done in the case and the outcome of Police investigation shall be made public in due course please.
