 DRC: Kabila arrives in rebel-held Goma after return from exile Former Congolese President Joseph Kabila, accused by the government of supporting rebels in the country's east, returned to Congo from self-imposed exile on Friday, arriving in rebel-held Goma city, two of the ex-president's associates and a rebel official said, AP reported. Kabila, who left Congo in 2023, came to Goma “to participate in peace efforts” in the conflict-hit east where Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have seized large swaths of territory, including the strategic eastern city, said a close aide of the former president. Another associate of Kabila's and a senior M23 official also confirmed the former president's return. The three spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media on the topic. EID-EL-FITR: ORTOM CALLS FOR SUSTAINED FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     As Muslims in Benue State join the rest of the world to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, Governor Samuel Ortom urges them to continue to observe COVID-19 protocol to prevent the spread of the disease.
The Governor implores the Muslim faithful and other Benue people to adhere to preventive measures such as social distancing, wearing of face masks, the use of alcohol based sanitizers and hand washing with soap.
He commends the people of the state for the impressive level of compliance with the measures taken by his administration to curb the virus.
Governor Ortom felicitates with all Muslims for the successful completion of Ramadan fast, and admonishes them to promote the values of piety, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and justice, as Prophet Muhammad exemplified.
He acknowledges and appreciates the prayers made by the Muslim community and all other religious groups any time the state is confronted by challenges.
The Governor assures Benue people that with their cooperation, his administration will continue to take proactive steps to tackle COVID-19, while also addressing other challenges of development.
Governor Ortom wishes all Muslims peaceful and memorable Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
