 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting.      On 09/05/2020, the Assistant Commissioner of Police incharge of Operations Anambra State Police Command *ACP David Iloyanomon* paid a routine visit to JTF deployed to Omor and Umumbo communities where Communal crisis occured recently.The ACP conveyed the massage of the Commissioner of Police *CP John B.Abang,fdc* to the officers and men and lectured them to be professional in their conduct and maintain high level of discipline. He also boosted their Morale and left them in high spirit.
Consequently,the officer equally addressed the youths and vigilante members of the two communities involved in the recent conflict following a rumour of renewed clash being pedled by mischief makers which was discovered to be false.He admonished the people to maintain peace and adhere to the resolution reached by Ayamelum Leaders of thought to lay down their arms, embrace peace,and allow free passage to their opponents to access their farm lands without hindrance or molestation.
Meanwhile,the Area is relatively calm and normalcy restored.Joint patrol still ongoing in order to avert any further breakdown of law and order in the Area please.
