 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT SETS UP TASK FORCE TO ENFORCE COVID-19 LAW.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      Anambra State government has set up COVID-19 Law Monitoring and Enforcement Task Force charged with the responsibility of operationalizing enforcement of the newly signed Anambra State Covid-19 law.
Rising from a meeting of the Committee on Tuesday, 16th June, 2020, the Secretary to Anambra State government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu said that His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano had at the last meeting of the State Executive Council, which held on Monday, 15th June, 2020, expressed shock that many Ndi Anambra are not obeying Covid-19 safety protocols including wearing of protective face masks, washing of hands with soap, maintaining social distancing and avoiding crowded places.
Professor Chukwulobelu said that the Committee which comprises representatives of the state government including the Secretary to the State government, The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Special Adviser to the Governor on Creative Security/MD, Anambra State Fire Service, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Commissioner for Transport, representatives of security agencies including Correctional services, the police, Civil Defence, OCHA Brigade, and ATMA have been mandated to begin the enforcement immediately.
Said he, “The Covid-19 law enforcement task force has already begun its work. Mobile courts to try offenders have been set up in these locations; Onitsha (2 units), Idemili North, Awka South (2 units) and Nnewi. Offenders on conviction will have the option of paying N10,000 fine or they will be committed to community serve or both”.
Professor Chukwulobelu also warned those who walk around the streets of Anambra state without wearing protective face masks to get ready for the consequences. “No offender will be spared. People should do the right thing and wear protective face masks”, he concluded.
