  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms. COVID-19: LAGOS SPORTS COMMISSION DOLES OUT RELIEF PACKAGES TO SPORTS WRITERS.[PHOTOS].#PRESS RELEASE.

     In order to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown on members of the Lagos Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Sports Commission on Friday distributed packages, comprising of 5kg Rice, 5kg Beans, One-litre Groundnut Oil and Hand Sanitisers to 250 of its members
Mr. Moses Kolawole, Director, Sports Development, who made the presentation on behalf of the Management of the Commission, stated that the gesture is to support the Sports Writers in Lagos, being stakeholders in games development in the State.
"What we are doing today is to support one of our very important stakeholders in our own little way during this pandemic. It is small but we are very sure that it would go a long way to assist members of the Sports Writers Association during this difficult time", he added.
Responding, Debo Osundun, Chairman (SWAN), appreciated the kind gesture of the Management of the Lagos State Sports Commission for remembering the association, adding that Government, through the Commission, has always been there for Lagos SWAN.
He further stated that members of Lagos State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria will continue to render necessary support to the State Sports Commission, through adequate publicity of its programmes, events and activities.
"We are very thankful to the Management of Lagos State Sports Commission for recognising our members during this pandemic period and we are very proud to be associated with the Lagos State Government", Osundun said.More photos below.
