 South Korea’s impeached President, Yoon to skip first trial hearing. South Korea’s impeached President, Yoon Suk Yeol, will not attend the first hearing of his impeachment trial, scheduled for next week, due to safety concerns. This was disclosed in a statement by his lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun, on Sunday. The embattled president has been holed up in the presidential residence, protected by an elite guard unit since his suspension and impeachment last month, following a short-lived declaration of martial law that plunged the country into political chaos. Yoon has refused to meet with prosecutors and investigators, with his presidential guard unit thwarting an attempt to arrest him after a tense, hours-long standoff earlier this month. The Constitutional Court has scheduled five trial dates, spanning from January 14 to February 4, DAILY POST reports.      The Senate Committee on Army held a public hearing to consider the bill for the establishment of Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) Borno State.
Making a presentation at the occasion, the COAS, Lt Gen TY Buratai thanked members of the Senate Committee on Army for their contributions, unwavering interest and support in passing the bill for the establishment of NAUB. He stated that the establishment of the university would surely address the critical need for education in different specialized fields.
NAUB is equally positioned to provide necessary academic programmes to counter negative narratives and ideology of the terrorists. It is one of the Nigerian Army's major efforts in the pursuit of winning the hearts and minds of the society and a remarkable milestone in promoting excellent Civil-Military relations.
The COAS made it very clear that "every eligible Nigerian, irrespective of geographical area, ethnic group or religion has equal opportunity to pursue academic learning in the university".
He expressed gratitude to the President and Commander -in-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari for giving the approval to establish the university in the year 2018.
The NAUB which is located in Biu LGA of Borno State has since been running courses in different academic fields. It is gradually becoming a citadel of learning and emerging Centre for academic and intellectual excellence.
The public hearing witnessed the participation of relevant stakeholders from National University Commission, Federal Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defence, Civil Society Organizations and the University Council among others.More photos  below.
