  The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Rivers State Police Command, demanding a public apology for the assault on five journalists during a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt. Failure to comply, the union warned, would result in a statewide media blackout. In a statement jointly signed by Council Chairman Comrade Paul Bazia and Secretary Dr. Ijeoma Tubosia, the NUJ condemned the police actions as “unprovoked, barbaric, and inhuman,” calling for the immediate identification and prosecution of the officers involved. “The NUJ, as a watchdog of society, will not sit idly by while media practitioners are subjected to barbarism and brutality.     Shagah's emergence followed his election by eight out of 10 kingmakers and subsequent approval by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, according to spokesperson for the kingdom, Timawus Mathias.
Dr Daniel Ismaila Shagah has emerged as the new king of Bachama Kingdom in Adamawa State.
Shagah's emergence followed his election by eight out of 10 kingmakers and subsequent approval by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, according to spokesperson for the kingdom, Timawus Mathias.
The new monarch had served and retired as Director of Finance and Administration of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
His appointment comes after the demise of the 28th king, Honest Irmiya Stephen, who died last month.
A statement from Governor Fintiri's spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou, on Wednesday, confirmed the appointment of Shagah as the new ruler of Bachama.
He said, "Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the appointment of Dr Daniel Ismaila Shagah as the new Hama Bachama following the demise of Honest Irmiya Stephen the 28th ruler of the Bachama Kingdom who died last month.
"As a trained narcotics officer and technocrat, I have no doubt in his capacity to lead his people right.
"The governor urged him to bring to bear on his community and the state his wealth of experience at a time that the state is passing through challenges of growth and development.".

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
