On Sunday, 16th August 2020. a Fulani herdsman attacked and severely injured two brothers in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state.

Narrating the incident to Stefanos Foundation, Mr. Victor Samuel who owns a farm in Rakung, Gassa Village said he came into his farm on Sunday, 16th August 2020 and found Fulani herdsmen grazing his cows on his farm.
According to Mr Victor, he asked the Fulani Herdsmen to leave his farm but they did not. They only apologized and changed location and still continued to graze on the farm. He confronted them and insisted that they pay for damages.

Mr Victor told Stefanos Foundation that the herdsmen apologized but refused to pay and started leading their cattle out.

He further stated that he proceeded to call his brother, Davou Samuel, who came and intercepted them. In the struggle to ensure that the herders didn't escape, one of the Fulani attacked them with a dagger and they sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Thankfully, none of the brothers lost their lives and they received prompt medical attention in a hospital in Barkin Ladi town.

The Fulani who carried out the attack is a familiar face in the community and goes by the name, Abas Dauda.
Stefanos Foundation was told that the parents of Abas came by the hospital to visit the brothers and even paid the balance of the medical bills.

Abas Dauda was at large for a few days. However, on Tuesday, 18th August, 2020, he was arrested by troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in Riyom LGA of Plateau State.

Stefanos Foundation commends the effort of OPSH in ensuring that the culprit was arrested. We also commend the attempt of the parents of the culprit to embrace peace.

The Foundation condemns such acts of violence by the Fulani Herder and calls on the government to continue to clamp down the herdsmen and ensure that justice is seen to be done in the case of any violence by these people.More photos below.
