Igbos are the predominant ethnic group in Southeastern Nigeria and prominently known for their traditions as well as business acumen.
According to Punch, Pastor Jakes, who is a renowned author and also a singer disclosed his discovery in an interview with BBC Igbo.
According to him, he said his Igbo ancestry was discovered after DNA test.
"It all started when Henry Lewis Gates, who was at Harvard, decided to this DNA testing to see where my ancestry came from. It was me, it was Oprah Winfrey. It was Quincy Jones and others,” he said.
The respected preacher further added that the test revealed his ancestors were from Nigeria, particularly of Igbo Tribe.
In his words:
Mine was traced back to West Africa, to Nigeria and particularly Igbo. My ancestors were Igbos. It’s indescribable. It gives something that we the African-Americans don’t have, which is roots.
The clergyman further added that the discovery opened his eyes to see how similar his personality is with Igbo people. He sees them as hardworking, industrious and innovative.
