 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. *Restore normalcy and intensify joint patrols to forestall reoccurrence*
On 12/2/2021 at about 11:19pm there was a report of intra-communal crisis in Ogwuikpele Community by the Council Chairman òf Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State Hon.Arinzechukwu Awogu over a levy from an oil exploring company in the Community.
Following the report,the Command quickly dispatched joint Police teams comprising PMF/RRS and other Conventional Units in collaboration with the local Community Vigilante group led by the Area Commander Oraifite,ACP Wilfred Afolabi to the scene and met virtually half of the Community deserted.Situation was brought under control and normalcy restored in the area.Joint patrols are ongoing to reassure fleeing residents to return to the Community and ensure lasting peace in the area.
Meanwhile,investigation has commenced in earnest to ascertain number of lives lost,injuries sustained,damage to property,circumstances surrounding the incident,identify and bring perpetrators to book.
The Command once again appeals to the fleeing residents to return to the Community since normalcy has been restored and warns restive factions to maintain peace and assist in the investigation rather than resort to violence.
