 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. GOV. SANWO-OLU APPOINTS FORMER ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL, 12 OTHERS AS MEMBERS OF NEW LASU GOVERNING COUNCIL.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

 The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to the Lagos State University (LASU), Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has appointed a former Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Finance, Sir David Sunmoni and 12 others as members of the new Governing Council for the Lagos State University, (LASU).


A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, noted that the appointments were based on the consideration of the report of the Special Visitation Panel on the appointment of the 9th Vice-Chancellor, which recommended the dissolution of the previous Governing Council of the University.


He explained that with the appointment of new members for the Council, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had exercised the powers conferred on him by the Lagos State University Law, Cap L69 volume 7, Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (as amended).


While noting that Sir David Sunmoni is to serve as the Chairman of the 13-member Governing Council, Wahab listed other members as Professor Amuwo Shaffudeen, Mr. Anuoluwa Eso, Mr. Tolani Sule, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, Mr. Karl Toriola, Mr. Adekunle Soname, Mrs.  Foluke Abdul- Rasaq, Mrs. Moronke Williams, Barrister Adebayo Akinsanya, Mrs. Adenike Yomi Fasheun, Mrs. Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo and Dr. Hakeem Adetugbobo.


The Special Adviser also informed that the date for the formal inauguration of the new Governing Council would be announced later.
