 Independent Broadcast Association of Nigeria (IBAN) has called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to retract remarks he made about Channels TV host Seun Okinbaloye and issue a public apology. The association, which represents independent broadcast stations in Nigeria, warned it could boycott all media engagements involving the minister if he fails to comply. In a statement signed by IBAN chairman Ahmed Ramalan and acting general secretary Fidelis Duker, the group expressed concern over comments Wike made during a live television interview. During the media chat, the minister reacted to Okinbaloye’s analysis on democracy, saying: “If there was any way to break the screen, I would have shot him.” Although Wike later clarified that the comment was not meant literally, IBAN said such statements are inappropriate for a public official. ...Lauds their zeal, determination
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Nigerian Army, Major General Faruk Yahaya has charged troops in the Theatre of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to be decisive and alert in the fight against ISWAP and Boko Haram Terrorists in North Eastern Nigeria.
The COAS gave the charge while addressing troops of Sector 3 Operation HADIN KAI/Multinational Joint Task Force, Monguno, during his maiden operational tour of the Sector on Saturday, 26 June 2021.
General Faruk Yahaya, who lauded the level of discipline and commitment to duty exhibited by troops of the Sector, however, admonished them to be apolitical, decisive and circumspect in all their operational engagements.
General Yahaya tasked both officers and soldiers of the Sector to conduct decisive offensive operations against the terrorist groups marauding in the theatre of operation.
He charged them to sustain the aggressive tempo of the operations and keep the flag flying, in order to bring insurgency to an end in the northeast.
The COAS was accompanied during the tour by the Chief of Operations (Army) Major General Ibrahim Yusuf, Theatre Commander Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Christopher Musa, the Provost Marshal (Army) Major General Robert Aiyenigba, Chief of Military Intelligence (Army) Brigadier General Danladi Salihu, Maritime Component Commander OPHK Commodore Richard Shammah, among other principal staff officers.
