 Four North Carolina utility workers were tragically killed when a dump truck driver drove through a stop sign and crashed into a crew of workers. This heartbreaking incident occurred at 1:23 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Eden, North Carolina. According to reports, a City of Eden dump truck driven by 66-year-old Michael Vernon ran a stop sign at the intersection of Carroll and Church Street in Eden. After blowing through the intersection, Vernon struck 6 utility workers with Duke Energy who were working on power lines for Carolina Power and Signalization. The dump truck then struck an occupied bucket truck before going off the road into a ditch. Four of the utility workers were sadly pronounced deceased on the scene while 2 others were life-flighted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Buhari appoints Emmanuel Jime as head of the Nigerian Shipping Council


President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Emmanuel Lyambee Jime as Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council.


The appointment is for a renewable term of four years.


Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu made the announcement in a statement Thursday night.


Jime, who has a law degree, is expected to use his vast experience in the new position having distinguished himself in various public positions.


The designated person was previously Managing Director of the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA).


Jime was a member of the House of Representatives for two terms. Represented the Makurdi / Guma Federal Constituency of Benue between 2007 and 2015.


Jime was Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly from 1992 to 1993.


The Shippers Council provides a forum for the protection of shippers’ interests in matters affecting the shipment of imports and exports to and from Nigeria.
