Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. Buhari appoints Emmanuel Jime as head of the Nigerian Shipping Council


President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Emmanuel Lyambee Jime as Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council.


The appointment is for a renewable term of four years.


Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu made the announcement in a statement Thursday night.


Jime, who has a law degree, is expected to use his vast experience in the new position having distinguished himself in various public positions.


The designated person was previously Managing Director of the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA).


Jime was a member of the House of Representatives for two terms. Represented the Makurdi / Guma Federal Constituency of Benue between 2007 and 2015.


Jime was Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly from 1992 to 1993.


The Shippers Council provides a forum for the protection of shippers’ interests in matters affecting the shipment of imports and exports to and from Nigeria.
