 Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump. Reacting to the development, Ciise Aden Abshir, a senior adviser to Somalia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and a former national team captain, described Artan as one of Africa’s most respected referees. “Omar Artan is among Africa’s most respected referees and deserves the support of the entire football community,” Abshir told AFP on Monday. Two Suspected Thieves Burnt Beyond Recognition In Awka 


Two suspected thieves were set ablaze yesterday, Tuesday, 20th July, 2021, opposite Queen suite, Abakaliki street, Awka, Anambra State, at 11 pm,  after a hot chase by a vigilante group an eyewitness disclosed. 


It was alleged that before the apprehension of the suspected thieves, they had engaged in theft, and made away with the phone of a passer-by. This act was said to have propelled the vigilante group to hunt them. 


The group which opened fire created panic in the temporary site (temp site) area sending people to their heels. However, after a clear chase of the suspected thieves, serenity was maintained in the area. 


It was gathered that the thieves were immediately set ablaze upon interception and their bodies burnt beyond recognition. 


Some passersby think that the act would serve as a deterrent to others who are or play to engage in robbery. 


No security agent was at the location as of the time of filing this report.
