  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has congratulated the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu on his 78th birthday.


Gbajabiamila said Oba Rilwan has been a great inspiration to leaders across the country, noting that his leadership qualities are unique.


The Speaker said at 78, Oba Rilwan Akiolu has demonstrated uncommon commitment and dedication to the growth and development of his people and Nigerians as a whole.


He said he was personally proud of the Oba of Lagos, whom he described as a pillar of hope and unity.


Speaker Gbajabiamila noted with delight the selfless service of the Oba of Lagos since his ascension to the throne in 2003, saying Oba Rilwan Akiolu has been a father to all.


Gbajabiamila prayed for more fruitful years in good health and increased wisdom for the Oba of Lagos.
