 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ANAMBRA STATE DECLARES THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WORK FREE DAYS TO ENABLE PUBLIC SERVANTS TRAVEL FOR THE GUBER ELECTION.{PHOTOS}.


Thursday, 4th and Friday, 5th November 2021 have been declared work - free days in Anambra State.


Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano announced this today during the 2021 Public Service Day Celebration.


The event was held at Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.


According to the Governor, the holiday is to enable the state workforce to prepare for Saturday's election, asking them to moblize their neighbours because the election must hold.


He thanked the state workforce  having worked well with him, stressing that he has fulfilled his promises to them and added more, expressing his desire of having Professor Soludo succeed him, stressing that his support for him is as a result of his pedigree and ability to develop and manage Anambra resources, declaring that he will perform better if elected.


In a speech, the Head Of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh said that Governor Obiano has kept faith with Anambra workers since inception of his administration, pointing out that the Governor has been consistent with payment of salaries, pensions, leave allowances, periodic civil service trainings among other incentives.


Barrister Uduh expressed optimism that the person he will hand over to, will continue from where he left off and even surpass him.


The APGA Standard Flagbearer in Saturday's gubernatorial election, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, flanked by his running mate, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, promised ndi Anambra to stand on the foundation laid by the Governor for consolidation and continuity, revealing his plans of job creation for greater number of ndi Anambra as a way of maintaining the pride of ndi Anambra.


While describing civil servants as the foundation, Professor Soludo pledged that if elected, by next year, once the finances can carry salary and other adjustments done, his administration will carry on and implement it, asking the state workforce to come out and exercise their franchise in Saturday's election which is very critical to the progress and advancement of the state.


In there separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Pensioners, National Light Newspapers, Comrade ABC Ubani who spoke onbehalf of five hundred and thirty others revealed that since the creation of Anambra State government, before the advent of Governor Obiano, no Governor had paid their pensions and thanked the governor for being magnanimous in payment, Chairman of Anambra Confedration Of Principals Of Secondary Schools, Chairman of ANCOPPS, Mr. Joevita Arazu pledged that they will vote for the government in power to ensure continuation.


Earlier the popular Nigerian actor, Chinwetalu Agu praised Professor Soludo to high heavens for the debt relief encountered during his time at the Central Bank, among other laudable programs, stating that he doesn't joke with Anambra because of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu's axiom of Nke a bu nke anyi which represents ndi Igbo, applauding the governor for his good deeds in the state.


Present at the event were members of the state executive Council, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of statutory Commissions, Ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals which witnessed award presentations, cutting of cake and music performances by Anambra Civil Servants.
