 More than 100,000 children have been displaced by the latest escalation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, UNICEF said on Sunday, warning the numbers are expected to rise as violence spreads. Since Dec. 1, intense fighting has uprooted more than 500,000 people, with children accounting for over 100,000 of those displaced in South Kivu alone, the UN agency said in a statement released Sunday. It said since Dec. 2, hundreds have been killed in the fighting, and children have been among the victims, with four students killed, six injured, and at least seven schools attacked or damaged. The rapid escalation has forced hundreds of thousands of children and families to flee within Congo and into neighboring Burundi and Rwanda, it added. RED LINE RAIL PROJECT: LASG TO DIVERT TRAFFIC AT KAYODE OGUNMOKUN ROAD, MUSHIN FOR SIX WEEKS.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

In continuation of the first phase of the Lagos Red Line Rail Mass Transit project (Oyingbo-Agbado), the Lagos State Government will divert traffic at Kayode Ogunmokun Road in Mushin for a period of six weeks commencing from 7th November until 31st December, 2021.


A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, noted that the diversion is a part of the traffic management plan for the construction of the Mushin Overpass, adding that the middle lanes will be cordoned off for construction work to ensure the safety of Lagosians.


Oladeinde further explained that motorists will be diverted to the lanes on both sides of the road to minimise inconvenience, assuring that signs will be mounted and Traffic Management Personnel deployed to guide movement during the course of the construction works.


Reiterating the continuous commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration towards the development of efficient transport infrastructure within the metropolis, the Commissioner maintained that a Multi-Modal Transportation System will boost the socio-economic development of the citizenry and the State.
