 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  IMO STATE ELDERS COUNCIL INAUGURATED BY GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA 


In furtherance to his all-inclusive governance that seeks to bring everyone into the policy-making of the Government, His Excellency the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has inaugurated the Imo State Elders Council headed by the Obi of Obinugwu, HRM Eze (Dr.) Cletus Ilomuanya as the Chairman.


The council which is made up of eminent Imolites who have distinguished themselves in service to the State and beyond, have been drawn to offer advisory services to the Government of Imo State in order to improve on the Government/People relationship for better development of our dear State.


His Excellency, encouraged members of the Imo State Elders Council to offer this selfless service to the people of Imo State more especially with the recent conversion of our youths into agents of disunity and crisis. This has created an urgency to rehabilitate and restore the sanity of the strayed youths.


In addition, His Excellency stated that the Elders Council would aid the Government in policymaking and drawing of programs that would create more jobs for the people and improve the livelihood of Ndi Imo especially now that the Government has commenced into rural development.
