 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  Many Feared Dead, Several Injured In Agulu Lake Auto Crash



Many persons were burnt beyond recognition with several others injured in a fatal auto crash that occurred at Agulu Lake Bridge.


The accident which occurred this evening, Sunday, December 26th, 2021 involved a truck, a shuttle and a Mitsubishi bus.


An eyewitness, Micheal Anochie told Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) that the accident occurred when a Mack Truck loaded with chippings tried to manoeuvre the truck when it lost control and hit the Mitsubishi bus from the rear and then hit the shuttle coming from the other lane.


He said almost all the passengers on board were burnt beyond recognition.


When ABS arrived the scene, it was observed that fire fighters from the State fire service were at the scene battling to quench the fire, but the two buses  and passengers on board have been burnt beyond recognition.


Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps quickly moved the injured persons to a nearby hospital.


As at the time of filing this report, no one could ascertain the number of dead persons, as efforts to speak with relevant authorities were futile.
