Anambra State Government Marks  Building For Demolition Within Main Market, Onitsha

A building under construction within the Main Market, Onitsha has been marked for demolition by government of Anambra State.

A joint task force including the Physical Planning Board, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Civil Defence Corps, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, among others embarked on the special enforcement operation.

ABS gathered that there was no approval from relevant authorities for such building to be cited in a place, originally designated as park for the market.

The developers were given one week ultimatum to remove the structure or risk demolition.

Executive Chairman of the State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe cautioned against building without approval which always defaces the environment.

Meanwhile as soon as traders in the premises saw the enforcement team, they rose and started shouting in jubilation, commending Governor Obiano for coming to their aid.

Barrister Maduekwe also used the opportunity to call on some developers who are currently erecting all manner of developments on the access road to desist as the state government has acquired one hundred meters from the road, for overiding public interest.
