 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. LAGOS DIRECTORATE OF CITIZENS RIGHTS GETS NEW DIRECTOR

… Tasks Counsel on Optimal Service Delivery

Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi has been appointed as the new Director, Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR), Lagos State Ministry of Justice following the deployment of her predecessor.

Speaking at her maiden meeting with all members of staff of the Office, Oshinusi tasked the workers on the need for improved productivity and optimum service delivery to the citizenry

She emphasised that it is high time all the Counsel in the Directorate up the ante in a bid to boost the State's Human Rights record, saying, "It is important to show absolute dedication and commitment to your official duties in order to improve on the State’s Human Rights record".

The new Director also urged the staff to extend her the maximum cooperation given to her predecessor in order to achieve the set goals and objectives of the Directorate.

Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi, who was a Director in the Department of Public Prosecution until her deployment, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 and has wealth of experience practising law in both the Private and Public Sectors.
