… Participants to Take Part in Diverse Activities

The Lagos State Government is set to sponsor State and Divisional Youth Ambassadors, as well as some youths, on a Leadership and Capacity Building trip to Chicago.

A release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Olusegun Dawodu, said 10 Young Leaders would be sponsored for the Leadership and Capacity Building Programme in Chicago, noting that the event is organised by World Chicago, in conjunction with SILEC Initiatives Nigeria, and designed to offer young leaders the opportunity to participate in diverse activities on the international exchange programme, including volunteer activities, conferences, events and forums.

He disclosed that one of the activities of the trip would be Programme Orientation and Overview of the workings of the United States Government, and also communication workshops with international experts and the YMCA Youth Safety and Violence Prevention programme.

His words: “The platform will enable participants to broaden their horizon, increase their experiences and foster international citizenships, thereby promoting exchange values, traditions and cultural diversity with a view to attaining global leadership.

The Commissioner explained that the participants have been thoroughly trained at the Y2021/2022 IBILE Youth Academy, as well as the Transformational Leadership Programmes, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, where they were taken through different leadership topics and tasks.

“The Chicago Exchange Programme is one of the commitments of the State Government to further build capabilities of the youth and transform them from local champions to global citizens that can compete favourably with their peers from any part of the world”, he added.

Recall that Miss. Funmilayo Akanni-Shelle, who represented the Ikorodu Division, emerged as the Y2021/2022 State Youth Ambassador alongside five Divisional Ambassadors across the State.
