TWO DROWNED IN DAMATURU EARLY MORNING DOWNPOUR The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that two people drowned in Damaturu, the state capital, following an early morning downpour. The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Isa Haruna and 18-year-old Abba Kyari. According to SEMA, the tragic incidents occurred in the Malam Matari and Pompomari areas of Damaturu. The agency said its Search and Rescue Team, working in collaboration with the Yobe State Fire Service, responded promptly after receiving distress alerts. However, upon arrival at the affected locations, rescue officials found that both victims had already died. Their remains were evacuated and transported to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu. SEMA has urged residents, particularly those living in flood-prone communities, to exercise caution during heavy rainfall and to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads or drainage channels. ANAMBRA HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY HALTS CONVERSION OF PTA-TEACHERS TO PERMANENT STAFF.(PHOTOS).

Anambra State House of Assembly has directed the Ministry of Basic Education to suspend conversion of teachers engaged by Parents Teachers Association pending the conclusion of investigation on alleged non - compliance to due process by the House. 

The House also invited the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha to appear before it on Thursday this week. 

The resolutions were sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education, Sir Ejike Okechukwu during plenary. 

The lawmaker informed the House that he received complaints from many of the PTA-teachers being converted to permanent staff that the exercise did not follow due process. 

Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor assured that the House will work hard to address the issue and read out the resolution to the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote. 

Also at plenary, the House sympathized with the victims of fire incidents that occurred at Shoe Site market, Obodoukwu, Okunegbu market,Nnewi,Asiegbu market,Oko.

It also consoled the people of Ekwusigo Constituency on the the fireoubreak that burnt parts of their Local government Secretariat. 

In his speech, Right Honourable Okafor noted that Governor Willie Obiano has done well to curtail fire incidents in Anambra State by recruiting more persons into the state fire service and procurement of more fire equipments as well as establishing more fire service stations at major markets in the state, even as he advised the people to desist from acts capable of causing fire outbreak in the state.
