 Suleja Prisons built over 100 years ago with mud, says Senate The Senate has explained the root cause of the reported jailbreak in Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre two weeks ago. According to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior, who briefed journalists shortly after a closed door session with the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; what happened in Suleja was not actually a jailbreak but the collapse of the moribund bricks of the prison wall, which was built over 100 years ago with local muds. There was a reported case of jailbreak in Suleja, Niger State on 24th April, 2024 during which 119 Inmates escaped from the Correctional Facility. The Minister of Interior,  Hon. Tunji-Ojo, during his visit to the affected facility last two weeks, informed government was planning to relocate some Correctional Centres to create better space, security and infrastructures. Nigeria begins evacuation of citizens from Ukraine 



The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it is expecting another batch of about 200 Nigerians into the city of Budapest later today. 

A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, said officials of the Nigerian Embassy, had received 130 Nigerians safely at Bucharest, Romania where they have been provided accommodation and are being documented, while arrangements are ongoing to bring them back home.

The statement further said officials at Budapest, Hungary have also received and accommodated 74 Nigerians safely, where they are being documented for subsequent travel arrangements back to Nigeria.

Also in Warsaw, Poland, the statement disclosed they have received 52 Nigerians and 23 are being processed at the Polish Government Reception Point at Hala Kijowska, near the border of Korczowa-Krakowiec. 

The statement emphasised that the camp is well organised with beds and beddings, food, heating, clothing and medicals for evacuees and also assured Nigerians that all hands are on deck and arrangements are being put in place to effectively evacuate citizens, in safety and dignity.
