 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. PDP Extends Tenure of North West Zone, Lagos State Caretaker Committees

The National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the extension of the tenures of North West Zonal Caretaker Committee as well as the Lagos State Caretaker Committee for a period not exceeding 30 days.

To this effect, the current members of the respective Caretaker Committees are to continue in their capacities for an additional duration not exceeding 30 days, upon the expiration of their current tenure.

Consequently, the tenure of the North West Zonal Caretaker Committee has been extended from Monday, February 28, 2022 to Monday, March 28, 2022 while the tenure of the Lagos State Caretaker Committee has also been extended from Friday, February 19, 2022 to Saturday, March 19, 2022.

All critical stakeholders and members of our Party in the North West Zone as well as Lagos State are requested to take note.
