 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. WORKER'S DAY AND EIDUL FITRI CELEBRATION :

COMMANDANT EWEKA DEPLOYS 2,150 OFFICERS AND MEN TO ENSURE ADEQUATE SECURITY AND THE PROTECTION OF CRITICAL NATIONAL ASSETS AND INFRASTRUCTURE IN LAGOS STATE.

Consequent upon the Federal Government's declaration of Monday, 2nd May and Tuesday, 3rd May 2022, as Public Holidays, by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, to mark this year's Worker's day and Eidul Fitri celebration, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Edenabu Douglas Okoro, msc, acma, cna, has immediately, deployed (two thousand, one hundred and fifty) 2,150 officers and men to ensure adequate security and the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the state. The Commandant disclosed that it is important to ensure speedy deployment of security personnel during such double celebrations and at all times. He further stated that the re - invigorated strategies will help to rid of criminals and eradicate the nefarious activities of vandals and other criminal elements that could be inimical to the economic growth and development of the state.

Further more, in line with the Commandant General(CG) Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, renewed call for synergy between the Corps and other sister security agencies, Commandant Eweka Edenabu Okoro, has also reviewed the operational strategies in the State Command Headquarters, Area Commands, Divisional Offices, Right of ways and other tactical formations of the Command, in a bid to ensure peaceful celebrations and adequate protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, during and after the Holidays, amongst other things, in Lagos State. He went further to elucidate the significance of the operational guidelines to the Head of Departments, Head of Units in the Command, six(6) Area Commanders, twenty(20) Divisional Officers, thirty-seven(37) officers-in-charge(OCs) of sub-divisions and outposts, Unit and Tactical Commanders.

He charged the officers to bring the right and appropriate impetus on board to protect all strategic locations, points, facilities, right of ways, oil pipeline installations, religious and worship centres, parks and gardens and all assets belonging to the Local, State and Federal Government of Nigeria, in the state,
before, during and after the celebration, through the use of robust intelligence gathering, intensive patrols - physical and psychological, crime prevention mechanisms, Special responses by Special Female Squad(SFS), Quick Intervention Squad approach (QIS) and collective security approach.

FInally, the Commandant, while congratulating the Workers encouraged them to be focussed, productive, effective and efficient in all circumstances, in order to enjoy a greater reward. He also congratulated the the Muslim faithfuls, in the state, for a successful completion of the Holy month of Ramadan and wished them the best rewards from God.

Nevertheless, the Commandant, warned the officers and men deployed to be on the alert as they discharge their duties without fear or favour of any kind. He also further charged them to remain professional, competent and to respect the rights and privileges of the civil populace, in the course of their duties, before, during and after the celebrations.
