 NSC DG applauds Ogun State, BetKing for hosting National Wheelchair Basketball Championship The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has hailed the Ogun State Government and sports betting giant, BetKing, for their instrumental role in hosting the ongoing BetKing 3×3 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship at the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, Abeokuta. During a visit to the championship venue, Olopade expressed admiration for the rapid development of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria and praised the collaboration between the government, the private sector, and the sport’s governing body. “I fell in love with this sport 15 years ago,” Olopade said. “What I’ve witnessed here is truly impressive — it reflects the sport’s growth and the incredible work being done by the federation, particularly Seyi Johnson and other board members.” The championship, which runs from April 3 to 7, serves as a selection ground for players who will represent N...

2023 Governorship: 179 clubs, associations present N50m cheque for Zulum’s form 

… Reveal some donors gave N1,000
… Demand Governor’s re-election

Over 179 clubs, associations and professional bodies with thousands of members have raised funds and presented a cheque with the value of N50m to Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, to cover the cost of purchasing expression of interest and nomination forms under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).

The groups had weeks ago began to gather contributions from members and made public an account number to which members channeled contributions of various sums. 

Presenting the N50m cheque, spokesperson of the coalition, Alhaji Awaji Bukar, said the contributions, some of which came from as low as N1,000 by some of their members, aimed to convey their appreciation to Governor Zulum for his purposeful leadership to the good people of Borno State.

He explained that the donations came from many registered members of over 179 clubs, associations and professional bodies across the state.

The Zulum administration has, in three years, recorded more than 600 capital projects and introduced far reaching policies and programmes that include ongoing resettlement of internally displaced persons and refugees in more than 10,000 newly built houses and thousands of rehabilitated homes.

Zulum in his response, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him by the groups and said he was particularly impressed with those who gave N1,000 from their meagre resources. 

The Governor assured the groups that his administration, if elected for a second term, would construct more infrastructures and invest far more in commerce, vocational education, job, and wealth creation and so on. 

Zulum also noted that with the increased stability across the state, the enormous amount spent on providing livelihood to the vulnerable would be channeled to providing developmental projects.

State Chairman of APC, Ali Bukar Dalori, who also addressed the groups, commended them for their sacrifices and for identifying with the APC in Borno State.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
