 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Anambra State Ministry Of Youths Development Trains 21 Local Government Desk Officers On ICT, Empowered With Laptops 



Anambra State Ministry Of Youths Development has graduated twenty one Local Government Youth Desk Officers after a four week intensive training on Information Communication Technology, ICT. 

At the event, the desk officers were also empowered with laptops to enable them man the newly created data bank for youths in the State. 

The event which took place at the Government House, Awka was attended by leaders of different youth organizations. 

The data bank will contain vital information of youths at the local government level collected by the desk officers.

They desk officers are expected to also oversee other youths programs in the council area and facilitate the strengthening of youth based structures at the grassroot level.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Youths Development, Mr Patrick Agha-mba said the ministry has positioned itself to take the lead in revolutionizing the state into becoming a digital tribe as Anambra drives its vision of becoming a smart mega city. 

He noted that the Ministry is poised to pursue community based driven programs for youths in the state.

In a goodwill message, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne said much is expected from the desk officers in their various duty post, asking them to have a good working relationship with colleagues and be good team players.
