 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LNSA, OTHER AGENCIES SHOW READINESS.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency and other Security Agencies operating in Lagos State paraded selected streets of lagos in a joint show of force recently. 

The long convoy of personnel including a detachment of the Nigeria Police, the Army, the Navy, the Airforce, the NSCDC, FRSC, OP-MESA, Rapid Response Squad, LASTMA and LNSC touched some known hotspots including Apapa, Ojuelegba, Lagos Island and parts of Eti-Osa in a rare display of collaboration against the common enemies of the people. 

In a brief interaction with newsmen, the General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Prince Dr Ifalade Oyekan said, "this is not just about the Okada ban in some Lagos metropolis, but a signal to criminals and criminal minded individuals that It is no longer business as usual for people of clandestine intentions." 

Prince Oyekan also pointed out the need for the Agencies to prepare towards the forthcoming elections and other security issues confronting the country as Lagos remains the economic and social hub of the Nation.
 
"Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's ban on the activities of Okada in the state is a noble one aimed at ensuring not just security, but also safety. It is not targeted at any particular class or group of persons; it is strategic in the bigger and greater Lagos vision we all should hold dearly in our hearts", he conluded.

The LNSA Team featured its special motorcycle troop led personally by Prince Ifalade Oyekan who in their special kits defied the heavy rains as they paraded the streets to show their readiness to do away with crimes and criminality in the state.
