 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Workers' Day: Governor Soludo Charges NLC To Move From Agitation To Constructive Development


Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has tasked the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on moving from "agitation movement" to a "movement of constructive development".

Governor Soludo made the call when Anambra State workforce joined their counterparts to mark this year's Workers' Day.

Members of Anambra State Executive Council, led by the governor joined to cheer and celebrate Anambra workers at the colourful event which was held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

While stating that the resources are meagre to address the charter of demands by the NLC, Governor Soludo assured that he will articulate the ones his government can implement, stressing that the welfare of the state workforce will be prioritized under his watch.

Describing the state workforce as the people that make the state glow, Governor Soludo said that the day is important to celebrate workers all over the world, especially the Anambra workers.

While canvassing for all hands to be on deck and lending his voice to celebrate the common man who labour in dignity in the journey to building a better society, the governor revealed that his administration is committed to building the smart, liveable and prosperous homeland and making its cities clean and green.

In attendance were the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, members of Anambra State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, members of the State Chapter of NLC, led by its Chairman, Comrade Chinwe Orizu, Chairman of Teachers' Union Congress, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Chris Ogbonna, among others.

The theme for this year's event which featured march-past by unions is "Labour Politics and the Quest for Good Governance in Nigeria".

A minute silence was also observed for the Managing Director of Anambra State Signage and Advertisment Agency, ANSAA, Mr Joe Anatune, who passed away in the early hours of the day.
