  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”. FEMALE STUDENT ABDUCTED FROM HER HOSTEL IN CROSS RIVER.(PHOTO).

A female student of Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State has been abducted by gunmen. 

The student was abducted after the gunmen invaded the school's hostel around 8pm on Tuesday July 19. 

The Acting Registrar of the institution, Mrs.Ughas Ngozi said in a statement; 

 “Management is on top of events and the security agencies are in control of the situation. All students and staff are please requested to remain calm and go about their normal duties.”

The public are also warned to desist from circulating false information."

Multiple sources told The Nation that the incident occurred while students were returning from their night reading class.  Others who escaped from the attack sustained various degrees of injuries.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said the Commissioner Of Police, Aminu Alhassan has deployed the anti- kidnapping, anti cultism and dragon units to forestall law and order and secure the kidnapped victim.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
