 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. COAS FLAGS OFF COMBAT ORIENTEERING COMPETITION IN CROSS RIVER STATE


...emphasised the importance of training in Combating Terrorism and Insurgency

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has flagged off the Nigerian Army Inter Divisions Combat Company Orienteering Competition. The event was held on Tuesday 30 August 2022 at Godwin Ally Cantonment Ogoja, Cross River State.

The COAS who was represented by Major General Joseph Omali reiterated the importance of training in the fight against insurgency and terrorism noting that competition will also enhance the leadership development of junior commanders.

Gen Yahaya urged the participants to strive hard in order to bring out the best in the championship assuring them that efforts and preparations for the competition will translate to relative ease in conduct of operations. He commended the 82 Division in selecting Ogoja for the championship adding the terrain provides all features needed for training of this nature.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army Major General Umar Musa in his welcome address acknowledged the emphasis the Nigerian Army under the current leadership of COAS placed on training. He expressed his confindence that the competition would be adventurous and entertaining.

The five days competition draw participants from six Divisions across the Nigerian Army and Army Headquarters garrison. They would undergo fitness test, ten and thirty kilometers run with heavy loads among others.
