 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 2023: Kaduna Police Warns Politicians Against Violating Electoral Act

The Kaduna State Police Command has warned all political parties and their candidates to strictly abide by the Electoral Act towards ensuring peaceful 2023 general elections.

The Command also warned parents and guardians not to allow their wards to be used as thugs and trouble makers before, during and after the elections.

Addressing Executive members of the Kaduna State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who paid a courtesy call to the Command, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Yekini Adio Ayoku said there would be water tight security at the polls so that the election would be smooth without hitches in all parts of the State and the country.

Ayoku expressed satisfaction with journalists in the State, saying that he had not had any bad media report against his Command since he assumed office.

He assumed duty in April as the 40th Police commissioner of Kaduna State.

He said, “We are promising top notch security within the State during the 2023 general election. We shall provide tight security so that the election will go smoothly.”

The Commissioner of Police appealed to journalists to deny terrorists propaganda through the way they cast their headlines, pointing out that journalists occupied strategic position to safeguard the entire country.

Ayoku explained that the Command had made a lot of arrests and recovered arms and ammunition from criminal elements since he assumed office in the State.

He assured that the Command was doing everything possible to return Kaduna state to the pride of the nation.

Hajiya Asma’u Halilu, the NUJ Chairman, told the Police Commissioner that there was the need to improve on collaboration between the Union and the Police Command by availing information promptly to journalists.
