 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. COLLABORATION WITH TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND PROVISION OF GRASSROOT SECURITY IN LAGOS STATE : SPECIAL FEMALE SQUAD ( SFS ) VISITS THE AKRAN OF BADAGRY.



Following, the recent charge of the Commandant General ( CG ), Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni,  on improved security and safety strategies, at the grassroot level, across the nation, the Lagos state Commandant, Commandant of Corps ( CC ) Eweka Edenabu Okoro, msc, acma, cna, has also immediately, directed Tactical and Operational Commanders in the Command, to take the bull by the horn, in their bid to stamp out all forms of criminality, against any citizen in the  state.

In furtherance of the familiarization exercise, embarked upon by the Special Female Squad ( SFS ), of the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, to all relevant stakeholders, Government institutions and traditional institutions, in the state, the SFS, ably, led, by its Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Corps ( DSC ) Agada Ada Bridget, once again visited, the Iconic Royal Father, the Akran of Badagry, Oba Claudius Dosa Akran, De Wheno Aholu Menu - Toyi 1, OFR, LLD, D. Litt, JP, yesterday, Tuesday, 6Th August, 2022, at his Badagry Kingdom, in the State.

Furthermore, the Command's SFS, was well and warmly, received, by the Iconic Monarch, together with the Baales, through the spokesman of the Ancestral Kingdom, Chief Michael Olorundami Avoseh, the Baale of Topo Community.

DSC Agada Ada Bridget, succinctly, seized, the opportunity, to state the purpose of the establishment of the Squad, which include to provide safety and security amongst our school children and act as school safety vanguard, amidst other pressing security needs at the grassroot.

She also said, "the protection and safety of lives and property, at the  grassroot is very germaine to the Squad, in a bid to effectively, discharge their mandates.

"She added that the visit, was also one of the proactive and tactical measures, of the Command, to inform, familiarize and assure the traditional institution, of adequate security and safety, of school children and all citizens of the State."

The Baale of Topo Community, Chief Michael Olorundami Avoseh, who received the Squad, on behalf of the Iconic Royal Majesty, the  Akran of Badagry and other Chiefs extolled the Squad, for gallantry and selflessness, in discharging their duties and functions.

He further said, "the entire Corps should be commended for this wonderful initiative, which has trained and empowered women to perform such rigorous duties and urged the Squad to be up and doing, in protecting women and children  through out the state.

"He also assured the Squad of the Royal Father's blessings, which include to excel and triumph, in all its operational endeavours in the State."

Finally, Commandant Eweka Okoro, avowed, his unflinching commitment towards improving the security and safety of school children and all citizens, against violence, poverty, cultism, sexual and drug abuses and other untoward crimes, at the grassroot level across Lagos State. He also pledged his support, to ensuring sustainable and robust synergy between the Squad and all relevant stakeholders, traditional and government institutions in the state.
