 RE: MISLEADING CLAIMS REGARDING EXTORTION OF MOTORISTS BY LAGOS STATE TASKFORCE – YET-TO-BE-IDENTIFIED SECURITY OPERATIVES: ANOTHER CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY The Lagos State Taskforce wishes to address a misleading narrative circulating on social media, particularly in a viral video shared by protesters and concerned groups who recently demonstrated at the Lagos State House of Assembly. The protest was in response to the alleged extortion of motorists by security operatives, yet to be identified, who are not officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit. We categorically state that the Lagos State Taskforce had no involvement in the said incident. Our enforcement teams are led by seasoned, well-trained, and highly disciplined senior officers who are far too professional and educated to jeopardise their ranks, integrity, and years of service for personal gain. El-Rufai Lauds Military’s Offensive Against Terrorists

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has applauded security agencies for mounting a sustained offensive against terrorists, kidnappers and other criminals in the state.

The governor made the commendation on Wednesday in Kaduna while declaring open the 4th edition of the Kaduna Book and Art Festival.
“In the last six weeks there has been improved offensive operation against criminals and we are confident if it is sustained, people can drive comfortably without any security or taking of the train to Kaduna,” he said.

He thanked organisers of the festival for coming to Kaduna to hold the event, in spite of “what people say about the state”.
El-Rufai said that his vision was to ensure that Kaduna remained a place where everyone feels at home, with no provision for indigene, tribe or religion.

According to him, what should matter is common humanity, such that everyone who chooses to live, work and pay tax is indigenous to Kaduna.

The governor expressed happiness to see many young people doing so well in poetry and writing, doing wonderful things with their lives.

“The future of Kaduna is in the hands of young people, particularly women; we are determined to give them opportunities to excel.
El-Rufai also spoke on the 2023 polls, urging citizens to vote for people who would address their problems “not those who created them”.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a lifetime achievement award was presented to Prof. Audee Giwa whose creative works delineate the various layers of life experiences in Northern Nigeria.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
