 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms. Gunmen kill five soldiers, one civilian in Anambra

Gunmen have killed five soldiers and one unidentified civilian.

The incident happened opposite one of the new generation banks in Umunze, Orumba South local government area.

A source, who spoke with The Nation, the incident happened around 2pm on Wednesday.

The soldiers, the source said, were in a Sienna vehicle when the hoodlums attacked them.
The shooting sent panic to residents of the area.

Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu told The Nation there was a shooting close to a bank in Umunze.

He said the details had not been received, adding that the incident happened between 12-1.30 pm.

He said the Command had deployed security operatives to secure the area, adding those responsible for such acts must regret it.

One of the Senior Police Officers in the State, who pleaded anonymity, also confirmed it to newsmen
