 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. OHANEZE NDIGBO TO HOST IGBO DAY COMMEMORATION IN AWKA


The Anambra state chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group and umbrella body of the Igbo leadership, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has stated its readiness to host patriotic and prominent Igbo people in Awka, Anambra State to mark 2022 Igbo Day.

Speaking to newsmen in Awka, the chairman of the planning committee, Chief Nwabufo Nwankwo reiterated the readiness of the group to host the 2022 Igbo Day to inaugurate executive members, also to be starred in the event is Igbo-centric lectures and the presentation of various awards to deserving stakeholders who have contributed immensely to the growth and prosperity of the Igbo nation. 

According to Chief Nwabufo, the theme of the 2022 Igbo day celebration is "Arịrị Akaria (lamentation of the Igbo Nation) - The Position of the Igbo Person". This theme according to him was unavoidably birthed given the prolonging none involvement of the Igbo people in key national positions of the Nigerian state. He maintained that the event would address pressing issues of the Igbo Nation and ask thoughtful questions as it regards the fate of every Igbo person in the country. 

In his part, the Chairman of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Emeka Udodeme (Obi Adama 11), highlighted that given the historical and political history of the Igbo nation with a focus on Anambra State, the organisation would in the event, honour some prominent Ndi Anambra who have contributed immensely to the growth, development and sustainability of the Igbo nation. Speaking on the personalities of some of the awardees, Chief Udodeme unveiled that the Hon. Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige., the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers' Council, HRM Igwe Dr Alfred Achebe (Obi of Onitsha)., HRH. IGWE K. O. N. ORIZU., Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor - Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly., Engr. Prince Arthur Eze., Chief Cletus Ibeto., Chief Innocent Chukwuma., Chief J. I. Ejison., Chief Ben Nwabueze., Sir Emeka Offor., Sen. Stella Oduah., Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Ubah., Sen. Uche Ekwunife amongst others would be awarded based on their respective contributions to the Igbo Nation. 

The event according to Chief Udodeme should be a must-to-attend for every well-meaning Igbo person who aspires to expand his/her horizon on issues regarding Ndigbo, stressing that the event would hold on the 30th of September, 2022 in the Oma event centre (opposite Ekwueme square, Awka at 11 am.
