 Up at dawn for front-row seat to history at Francis’s funeral Many had woken up at dawn while others slept in their cars before Catholic faithful poured into St Peter’s Square from all corners of the globe on Saturday, fuelled by a desire to honour Pope Francis. As the first rays of the day rose over the sprawling Baroque plaza, mourners rushed towards empty chairs once they had passed through metal detectors, anxious for a front-row seat to history. Among them was Jean-Baptiste Leclezio, a 22-year-old from Lyon, who slept on the ground overnight at the seat of the Catholic Church to be among the first to enter for the funeral of Francis, who died on Monday age 88. “We took floor mats and sleeping bags and we slept there with 400 people, a lot of young people, scouts,” he told AFP. “There were people singing all night but we managed to sleep,” he said. SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH VISITS AMAKU TEACHING HOSPITAL TO PAY FINAL RESPECT TO HIS LATE PERSONAL AIDE; MR. GOODNEWS MATHIAS AS HIS BODY DEPARTS FOR AKWA IBOM STATE

As we countdown to the burial of my late Regional Manager; Mr. Odum Ikechukwu and Personal Assistant; Goodnews Mathias scheduled to hold tomorrow being Saturday October 8, 2022 in Mbaukwu - Awka South, Anambra State and Ika, Akwa Ibom State respectively, today, I visited the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University  Teaching Hospital Amaku to pay final respect to my late Personal Assistant; Mr. Goodnews Mathias whose body was set to depart for Akwa Ibom State where he will be buried.

Until his untimely demise, my late Personal Aide; Goodnews was a bundle of joy and encouragement to all around him. A kind soul, strong and resilient character who discharged his daily duties with utmost care and devotion. The thoughts of his departure to eternity is a reality that is too difficult for me to embrace.

While appreciating you all for your love and solidarity in this moment of grief, I want to humbly urge you all to keep us in your prayers as we prepare to bury and commit my late aides to mother earth tomorrow. 

On behalf of my family, friends and the good people of Anambra South, I thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and encouragement. May God grant us all the peace and strength to cope with this irreplaceable loss, and may the soul of the departed rest in perfect peace.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
