SENATE ADJOURNS EMERGENCY PLENARY ON STATE POLICE OVER REP’S DEATH. The Senate today suspended consideration of the highly anticipated State Police Bill and all other legislative business at its emergency plenary session to honour the memory of Hon. Yaya Tongo, a member of the House of Representatives, whose death cast a sombre mood over the National Assembly. The upper chamber had reconvened from recess amid expectations that lawmakers would accelerate action on the proposed constitutional amendment seeking to establish state police across the federation, a measure widely seen as a major step in the ongoing effort to reform Nigeria’s security architecture. However, proceedings were cut short after Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the death of Tongo, who represented the Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives. INEC Staff Held By DSS In Imo Was Moved To Police Command After We Raised Alarm – CUPP Alleges

The Nigerian Opposition, Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has alleged that INEC staff, chidiebere eze who has been held in illegal secret detention by Imo DSS was moved last night based on alleged pressure from Imo APC govt to Imo Police Command after the opposition parties exposed the illegal detention.

This was contained in a statement by Ugochinyere Ikenga, CUPP spokesperson on Saturday.

It reads, “We are alerting the IGP, Usman Alkali Baba and President Buhari of this secret movement of INEC staff from imo dss to Imo Police command, calling on them to ensure his freedom and those behind voters register compromise arrested and the innocent INEC staff freed from over three weeks of secret illegal detention.

“THE OPPOSITION IS AWARE OF ALLEGED PLAN BY IMO POLICE COMMAND, BASED ON PRESSURE FROM THE STATE GOVT AND WANTS TO FILE TRUMP-UP CHARGES AGAINST HIM TO HELP KEEP HIM IN ETERNAL DETENTION TO COVER THE COMPROMISE OF THE VOTERS’ REGISTER WHICH IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE FOR WHICH THE CULPRITS ARE STILL MOVING ABOUT FREELY.
“THE PLOT TO CHARGE CHIDIBERE IS DEAD ON ARRIVAL AS THE VOTERS’ REGISTER IS A PUBLICLY DISPLAYED DOCUMENT COVERED BY SECTION 19 OF THE ELECTORAL ACT AND NOT A SECRET DOCUMENT UNDER SECTION 97 OF THE CRIMINAL CODE.

“The list of fresh registrants that participated in the INEC continuous voters registration has been displayed by INEC for people to make claims and objections in accordance with the law.”

The INEC staff Stanley Eze Chidiebere who first raised the alarm about mutilation to the INEC voters' register was initially detained by the DSS for over 2weeks before he moved last night to the Imo State Anti-kidnapping Unit on the orders of Gov. Hope Uzodinma.

Nigerians would recall that the alarm raised by Mr Stanley Eze Chidiebere now referred to as the #OmumaMagic.

Were a ward (Omuma) in Imo state that previously had 6,500 registered voters was changed to have 46,000 registered voters a suspicious 702% increase.
