 Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment. KING CHARLES BECOMES THE CAPTAIN GENERAL OF THE ROYAL MARINES AS THEY CELEBRATE THEIR 358TH BIRTHDAY TODAY.(PHOTOS).

Today as the Royal Marines celebrate their 358th birthday The King has become their new Captain General.

Founded in 1664 during the reign of King Charles II, the corps are widely acknowledged as one of the world’s elite fighting forces. His Majesty trained and served alongside the Royal Marines during his Naval career.

In a personal message to the Royal Marines, The King said:

“It is the greatest possible pleasure to assume the role of your Captain General.  I am exceptionally proud to follow in the footsteps of so many members of my family over the last three and a half centuries, all of whom held the role with a deep sense of admiration. 

“The Royal Marines have a distinguished and unparalleled history, both on land and at sea. I draw immense inspiration from your courage, determination, self-discipline and a remarkable capacity to endure in the most extreme environments.

“I feel greatly honoured to become part of the Corps Family and very much look forward to meeting many of you in the near future. In the meantime, this comes with my heartfelt and special wishes for a very happy 358th birthday.
