 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 51-year-old man arrested for allegedly beating his wife to d€ath in Ogun.....what he did afterwards will shock you

Men of the Ogun state police command on October 12 arrested a 51 years old man Oluranti Badejo for allegedly beating his 40-year-old wife Folasade Badejo to d€ath. 

The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe divisional headquarters by the younger sister of the deceased,  who reported that she received information from her elder sister's daughter that her elder sister who lives with her husband at NO 7, Madam Felicia street, Orimerunmu, Mowe has been beaten to d€ath by her husband. 

Upon the report, the DPO Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested. The lifeless body of the victim was then evacuated to the mortuary in Shagamu for post mortem examination. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect str@ngled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of minor disagreement. 

Having realized that he has k!lled his wife,  the suspect used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to look as if she was electrocuted. But unfortunately for him, their 8-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing. It was the daughter who testified seen her father strangulating her deceased mother to d€ath. 

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
